Championship Golf on the West Coast

Garðavöllur is the home course of Golfklúbburinn Leynir in Akranes, founded in 1965. The course was expanded to 18 holes and officially inaugurated in 2000. Its relatively level terrain is broken up by rocky outcrops, ponds, bunkers and pockets of trees, creating a varied and challenging layout.

Garðavöllur has hosted several major Icelandic golf tournaments, including the Icelandic Stroke Play Championship in 2004. The course is known for its well-maintained greens and demanding holes, with Mount Akrafjall providing a distinctive backdrop.

Playing the Course

What to Expect

An 18-hole championship round featuring water hazards, strategically placed bunkers and tree-lined sections. Wind adds another challenge, while accurate tee shots and carefully judged approaches are rewarded throughout the course.

The 7th Hole – Flóinn

The par-5 seventh, Flóinn, is rated the most difficult hole on the course. Measuring almost 600 metres from the back tees, it demands accurate long shots before reaching a large green with a variety of possible pin positions.

Facilities

Clubhouse with Leynir Bistro and extensive practice facilities, including the covered 12-bay Teigar driving range, a putting green, chipping area and a separate six-hole par-3 practice course. Golf carts are also available to rent.
