Reykjavík’s Historic Golf Course

Grafarholtsvöllur is operated by Golfklúbbur Reykjavíkur (founded in 1934) and is Iceland’s oldest 18-hole golf course. Designed by Swedish architect Nils Sköld, the first holes opened in 1963, with the full 18-hole layout completed in 1968. Set in eastern Reykjavík, around 15 minutes from downtown, the course winds through varied, hilly terrain bordered by lava and heather.

Hole 15, a challenging par 5 with an elevated tee and sweeping views over Reykjavík, is one of the course’s highlights. Grafarholt is regarded as one of Iceland’s best golf courses and has hosted numerous national and international championships.
