Golf in Iceland

Golf in Iceland is more popular than you might think. Despite the country’s cool climate, golf is one of Iceland’s most popular sports with about 12% of the population playing it regularly.

But this isn’t your typical golf destination. Here, you might be teeing off under the midnight sun, playing through lava fields, or chasing the northern lights after your round.

This guide will take you through everything you need to know about golf in Iceland, from the best courses to travel tips.

When Is the Best Time to Golf in Iceland?

Because of the weather, golf in Iceland is a seasonal sport. Most courses open in May and close in late September, with peak conditions during the summer months.

From late May to late July, Iceland experiences nearly 24 hours of daylight, allowing golfers to play well into the evening or even past midnight. This experience, known as midnight sun golf, offers a distinctive and unforgettable way to enjoy golf in Iceland.

As the days grow shorter from mid-August to late September, another rare opportunity arises. You can play golf during the day and chase the northern lights in the evening. Take a look at our Northern Lights Golf Tour, which combines golf with the chance to see the aurora at night.
